This shirt features the shapes of three tsuba, sword guards for Japanese swords. Even though the three tsuba shown here are rather utilitarian, they still radiate beauty and craftsmanship.
The design
The tsuba designs are from actual historical artifacts: The first from the left was made in the 16th century and features a dragonfly design. The center piece also dates 16th century and shows stylized butterflies. The piece on the right side dates 14-15th century and shows to overlapping flowers.
