This premium t-shirt brings the serene atmosphere of 19th-century Edo to your everyday wardrobe. Featuring the iconic "Moon Pine" woodblock print by the legendary Japanese master Utagawa Hiroshige, our shirt blends high-quality comfort with the timeless aesthetic of the ukiyo-e tradition. It is more than just casual wear; it is a wearable piece of art designed for those who appreciate history, culture, and sophisticated vintage design.

The design

This garment showcases "The Moon Pine, Ueno" (Ueno Sannai Tsuki no Matsu), a celebrated work from Hiroshige’s final masterpiece series, One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (1857).

The artwork is famous for its daring composition, where the viewer looks through the naturally looped branch of a massive pine tree to see the landscape beyond. The scene captures the southern part of Shinobazu Pond, featuring the red Benten Shrine situated on the middle island.

On the far shore, you can see rows of commoners' houses (now the Ikenohata district) and, in the distance, three distinct fire towers. These towers marked the daimyo estates on the Hongo rise, specifically the main estate of the Maeda lords of Kaga – land that is today part of the University of Tokyo.

The artist

Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) is recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo-e woodblock printing tradition. Renowned for his poetic approach to landscapes and his mastery of capturing atmosphere – such as rain, snow, and moonlight – his work possessed a lyrical quality that set him apart from his contemporaries.

Hiroshige’s bold use of perspective and color profoundly influenced Western Impressionist painters, including Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western art history.

Why you'll love it

  • You will wear a faithful visual reproduction of this beautiful ukiyo-e print from the Edo period.
